In the salt marshes of the New England coastline, the incoming tide comes in waves that fill the muddy channels with water. It activates feeding for the many little invertebrates like clams and crabs, who scurry out of their muddy homes to feed on little creatures and algae brought in from the sea. The marshes are beautiful, teeming with bird life, and a highlight of each visit I make to the shore. I often paddle my canoe down the winding channels just listening in on the busy lives of all the little creatures that make their lives among the grasses.
