New Art! Scenes from a Winter River
Scenes from a Winter River is a collection of acrylic paintings done over a period of a week, depicting the rapidly shifting ice conditions on a small river in Maine.
21 Waves Collection
21 Waves is a collection of 21 wave studies that I created to celebrate the way the ocean interacts with the shore, and the irresistible pull it has on us. I go to the ocean often; I want to be as close as I can to that place where the water brushes up on the sand. In warmer months, I keep going, until I’m touching the water, stepping through it, crouching down low to watch the light dance on the sand below the waves. I dive beneath the larger waves and feel, for a moment, like a fish, weightless and tossed by the churn of the water above me, swimming my way up towards the light. I can’t get enough of it, even if it means soaked boots in January!
Public Art!
Heading to downtown Kittery, Maine anytime soon? I just completed work on these wave barriers, and they can be found just outside Wallingford Square. What a fun project!
Hi, I'm Allison Donohue, and I'm an artist working out of my studio in Southern Maine.
I spend a lot of time wandering through fields, woods, streams and shorelines observing plants and animals. I have a particular obsession with the ocean and the many islands that dot the Maine coastline. Over the years, the shapes, colors, and images that I’ve seen have lingered with me, and I’ve found myself compelled to create and share art that draws on my experiences in the wild. |
